Your Pace or Mine, Chef Blais?

Your Pace or Mine, Chef Blais?

He may have stumbled at the finish line on his original season of Top Chef but Richard ran away with the title of All-Star earlier this year on the BravoTV hit series Top Chef All Stars. Crazy innovative and highly adorable – that crooked smile and faux hawk does something to this girl – Chef Richard Blais will run his first marathon in support of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.

Blais will lead five other first-time marathoners – Team Healthier Generation – in the ING New York City Marathon on November 6, 2011.

“As a chef and father to two young children, health and nutrition is a huge part of my life,” says the molecular gastronomy genius.

He seems to be taking his training pretty seriously too, tweeting from @richardblais, as to when he’s headed out for a run and how many miles he’s completed for the day. And in response to a tweet from moi (yes, we’re Twitter friends – don’t hate), he’s solid on running the entire length of the race. That’s 26.2 miles, if you didn’t know.

The All-Star also hopes his team gets tons of support and they’ll need it as they have a lofty fundraising goal of $50, 000! Donations can be made by anyone by visiting Crowdrise.  Less than 70 days left before race day and the team still needs to raise nearly $48,000.

Alliance for a Healthier Generation, founded in 2005 by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, supports more than 12,000 schools and more than 7.5 million students nationwide through its Healthy School Programs. The goal of is to reduce our nation’s leading public health threat – childhood obesity – and to empower kids to make healthy lifestyle choices.

My question is, how in the world does this man find the time between inking a deal for a cookbook, opening a new Atlanta restaurant called The Spence – both slated for 2012.

I admire your passion, Chef Blais, and wish you and Team Healthier Generation a blister-free free run!
