One of my favorite places to celebrate Girls Mommies Night Out is at The Penthouse atop  The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica. Upon arrival, take the elevators to the roof which lets out directly inside the stark white restaurant filled with beautiful people and breathtaking views. Saturday nights tend to be busy with many celebrations so make sure to call in advance for a reservation.

In my opinion nothing beats seating in one of the restaurants signature cabanas especially if you have a small group of friends. It’s the perfect size with the right amount of privacy for everyone to sit, share stories and laugh while not feeling like you have been cut off completely from the crowd.

Once we were shown to our cabana, we enjoyed unobstructed 360-degree views of the sunset over Catalina Island. As we were mulling over what to order, a server brought to the table some delicious selections to taste.  First, was a spoonful of warm goat cheese & mango with sesame seeds.  I swear a tear just formed thinking about it.  I am pretty sure that is what bites of heaven taste like.  Second, we received the most amazing flatbread.  (Bare with me since I am doing this from memory…) Melted cheese, potato and truffles on a warm crust – it may have had onions too…whatever it was, it was phenom!  Next… geoduck or gooey duck served with mandarin oranges.

There were so many items on the menu I was still dying to try; however  I finally opted for the seared yellow fin tuna with bacon mashed potatoes, baby bok choy & wasabi sauce.  It was just the perfect amount and prepared absolutely perfectly!  The others chose crab cakes with corn coulis & baby lettuces, steak tartar with crispy capers, quail egg, tapenade & grilled cheese and the table shared warm potato chips with parmesan & garlic aioli sauce.

Wow.  Just WOW!

As much as I wanted to end the night with the trio of mini ice cream cones, I simply couldn’t do it, I was stuffed!  However I did manage to sneak a few bites of the desert samplings delivered to the table: chocolate lava cake with banana brulee pudding and hazelnut praline & milk sorbet AND a birthday plate of warm vanilla creme brulee with carmel berries.

The Penthouse pulled out the stops and all around it was the perfect night.  Great company and yummy treats. While this was a great place for a date night with friends, I’m already excited to spend the weekend at the hotel soon and try their Sunday brunch with the fam.

Where is your favorite place for a good old-fashion GNO?
