My Dream Home | The Movie Set

It’s not often, but I sometimes find myself watching a movie and instead of paying attention to the plot, I can’t help to think, “I could live in that home exactly the way it is,”  or “The cabinet from Restoration Hardware would look fabulous there with some of our family photos.” And then the rest of the movie is ruined because the next two hours are spent dreaming of celebrating birthdays, Thanksgiving Day dinners and opening gifts under the tree Christmas morning in a home I will never step foot into.

Most of the time I immediately shrug off the movie homes within seconds because I begin to ponder things like: too big…too small…too modern…too traditional and my personal favorite “I’m soooo not living in {insert city}!”  Yes, I really do think that sometimes. These are the extra-special ones that have met my qualifications, have made it on my dream board and I am ready to sign on the dotted line and go into escrow!

Do you recognize any of them?

The Holiday starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black

It’s Complicated starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin

Life as We Know It starring Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl

Tell me it wouldn’t be a dream to raise a family in one of these homes!  Please excuse me, I must now go and manifest  my future dream residence. TTFN!

What television series or movie do you wish you could just move your clothes into and live happily ever after?

  1. Ok, I love this so much I too get absolutely caught up and frankly a bit lost in the scenes where the rooms seem to just come alive!

  2. OMG. I totally knew those top two IMMEDIATELY. Really probably nailed my top two favorite movie sets….though I am kinda partial to the house in the UK in The Holiday….The only one I would add to this list is…Something’s Gotta Give- that beach house destroys me every time I see it. If only writers actually made enough money to roll like Diane in that Hamptons Heaven. Sigh. 🙂

    • Kirsten, Great taste! I was thisclose to adding the SGG house. That kitchen is to die for. BTW…not to sound creepy stalker, but I think I know you. LOL. Your name sounded familiar, so I clicked on your avatar when you commented on the TTT FB and we have a few common friends. (TT, HD, MB, KR, KG). Hmmmm?! Are you an Oakie?

  3. Oakie as in Oak Knoll? 🙂

    • Yep! (I speak in code.)

  4. LMAO. That is a riot. 1989. Yup. I’m typing this now from about 2 miles down the street from there.

    • Small world. I went to St. E’s 1993. And I’m typing this about 3,400 miles away 🙂

  5. Ridiculously small world! So glad we met!!
