Mixed Tape | Let’s Get Physical

Director of Health + Beauty, Wendy Nielsen, thinks reality TV and her iPhone are just as important as air, wants to kick cancer in it’s shins and a huge girlcrush on Gwen Stefani. Twitter: @Wendy_Nielsen

Did you know the average weight gain from Halloween through New Years is eight pounds? EIGHT POUNDS! Eight pounds on this bod would put me pretty close to the Mendoza Line. Google “Mendoza Line” and you’ll understand my reference. It’s not good people, not good. The other day I tweeted that I was tired of feeling sluggish and just plain gross on the inside followed by the hashtag #challenge25. My goal is to lose twenty-five pounds in the next six months. And it’s gonna be a challenge because, well, I’m lazy.

But since I shared my weight loss goals with the Twitterverse – and now my fellow Tribers – it’s time I make some changes. First, I’m tiptoeing into the world of clean eating. But we all know diet alone won’t yield the results I’m looking for so I’ve also registered for the local “Turkey Trot” – a 5K race on Thanksgiving morning.

My “Couch to 5K” training begins immediately and I desperately need some jams to kick this booty into gear. So, I’ll leave you with my personal list of heart-pumping-feet-pounding tunes. It’s not the most sophisticated mix or even the coolest but I’ve found that this collection always motivates.

  • Imma Be – Black Eyed Peas
  • Good Vibrations – Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch
  • In Da Club – 50 Cent
  • The Pretender – Foo Fighters
  • Make Some Noise – Beastie Boys
  • The Choice is Yours – Black Sheep
  • I’m A Slave for You – Britney Spears
  • Groove Is In the Heart – Deee-Lite
  • What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger) – Kelly Clarkson
  • Lose Yourself – Eminem
  • MoneyGrabber – Fitz and the Trantrums
  • Promiscuous – Nelly Furtado featuring Timbaland
  • Blue Orchid – The White Stripes
  • Let’s Get Back – No Doubt
  • Raise Your Glass – Pink
  • Give Me Everything – Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo
  • Don’t Cha – The Pussycat Dolls featuring Busta Rhymes
  • Jackson – Waxapples
  • Zero – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • Hey Mr. D.J. – Zhane

Twenty songs, 1.2 hours. And now I’m headed out to dust off the treadmill. Who’s up for joining me in #challege25? Too much? How about leave us with your top 5 best workout songs!

  1. Love this post! Inspired me to refresh my workout mix! Great photo at the top – think the guy in the white shorts is my fave! 🙂 Fantastic list of tunes! My top 5 would be:

    1) I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
    2) Mr. Brightside – The Killers
    3) Bonkers – Dizzzee Rascal
    4) Sabotage – Beastie Boys
    5) Beautiful Day – U2

    • Sabotage is a GOOD one!

    • Sabotage and Beautiful Day are both good ones. And I’m always a sucker for Black Eyed Peas.

  2. BTW – Awesome you are doing the 5K!! Good for you!

    • Ah, we’ll see. It will be more walk than run.

  3. I’m so inspired. Love your picks! I realized I need super fast & angry songs to kick me in the tush and get my blood pumping. Some songs can better than caffeine!

Renegade of Funk – Rage Against the Machine
    Rebel Yell – Billy Idol
The Rockafeller Skank – Fatboy Slim
Welcome to the Jungle – GNR
What You Waiting For? Gwen Stefani
Chop Suey! – System of the Down
    Honey – Moby
    Wish – NIN
State of Love & Trust – Pearl Jam
    Breathe – The Prodigy

    • OMG, that Rage song is a good one. And I adore anything by Gwen Stefani (tick, tock, tick, tock).

      • We forgot! Foo Fighters/Deadmau5 remix.

  4. I have a Gaga station on Pandora that i rock out to. I LOVE it. I should sign up for a 5K, but I’m too cheap to pay to go running 🙂 I need to eat better, trust me, after a weekend of drinking and hangover eating I need some HELP. The holidays are going to kill me. Let’s DO IT!

  5. Great songs! I added some of them to my workout mix, and have these to suggest:
    1) LMFAO – Sexy and I Know It
    2) Fort Minor – Remember The Name
    3) Ice Cube – You Can Do It
    4) Fabolous – You Be Killin Em
    5) Christina Aguilera – Fighter

  6. OK so I had to come back to this because I discovered another great workout song on my nano today I totally forgot about! “Are you gonna be my girl” by JET!! Love the song and great for motivation!! Had to share! 🙂
