Threads :: Rent the Runway
Vegas…the glamorous life indeed. But when you seriously have to attend 4 events in 4 days, it can be exhausting, and really not budget friendly. Who wants to wear the same dress twice? Furthermore, who wants to show up to these “Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous” events wearing last seasons off the rack. Not this girl!
And, so I was introduced to Rent The Runway.
What is it: An on-line retail shop, where you can rent designer dresses for way less than what you could ever find on mark down or at an outlet. And, I mean, designers, good ones, too! Zac Posen, D&G, See by Chloé, and Versace to name a few.
How do you use it: Sign-up to be a member (it’s free) and shop away. I love they have dresses suggested for almost any event you can think of like:
- Girl’s Night Out
- 50 under $50
- Cocktail Party
- Career Moment
They even have a whole section just for weddings as a guest or a bridesmaids, I mean, WHO is going to wear that bridesmaid dress again? I never wore any of the 6 dresses of weddings I was in ever again. Never. Ever. Remember that.
Why it’s awesome: Um, designer dresses at a fraction of the price. Literally, I rented two of my favorite designers, Haute Hippie and Halston Heritage, retail price anywhere from $600 and up. I was able to rent two dresses for two separate events, and they threw in a back-up size for free, just in case one didn’t fit!
When should I order: If you have a pending date that you need to look spectacular for, start shopping now! And, here’s a tip, start shopping first at your favorite place that carries your favorite brand. For example, I loved the Haute Hippie dress I rented, didn’t love the price. I checked out the collection of Haute Hippie at Neiman Marcus first. Tried on different sizes and styles. This way I knew what to order. Ordering on-line can be scary, but be smarter than the beast! If you don’t have that much time, then pick a style you know your body can rock, an opt for the 2nd size for free. RTR recommends you shop early (so do I) as I found the longer I waited, some of the styles were no longer available.
The Customer Service Rocks! Yes, it does. There are stylists on-hand to answer any and all of your questions. They are on East coast time though, and their service reps work regular office hours. Just shoot the an email, and they will respond to you ASAP. RTR also suggest you place your order to arrive at least 24 hours earlier than the event you need to wear the dress for. This was my only complaint as I needed the dresses for 4 events within 4 days. You can only rent the dress for either 4 days without being charged extra, unless you bump it up to 8 days for an additional fee. Having to rent the dress a day earlier kind of cut into my “Me-Time” with my beloved ladies, but in the end it all worked out. My last event happened to land on a Sunday, in which case they allow you to pop it in the mail first thing the next morning.
Simple. Easy. Fast. Affordable. Amazing! I loved how easy it was to use. I loved how many compliments I got on the dresses I chose. And, that NO ONE was in the same outfit as me! I will totally Rent The Runway again!
What event do you have coming up that you can Rent The Runway?
