I decided this year, instead of fighting the battle that is buying shorts that look cute and don’t ride up/down on me, that I would forgo them almost entirely and choose skirts and dresses for summer wear. I’ve discovered the best thing about wearing a dress is all you need is a cute pair of sandals or shoes to go with them and you’re ready to go.

Here are some of my favorite ones right now!

So soft, so cool- you can belt this dress with anything and still look good. Great for a barbeque.  FELICITY AND COCO, $68.00 at Nordstrom

Caftans are great for afternoon barbeques, lunch with friends or as a beach coverup. This creamy version also comes in a sweet blue floral. $17.95 at H&M

Keep with the color-block trend while staying cool in the middle of a heat wave or protecting sunburnt shoulders.  Dark sunglasses are a must. $44.99 at Modcloth

This floral print can go from the farmer’s market to the afternoon cook-out while keeping you looking fresh. Customize with a belt over the drawstring or pack it as an easy option for vacation. $49.50 at Ann Taylor Loft

Pulling the lace and cut-out trends together, this strappy little dress is hot while keeping you cool on a night out. $65.00 at Topshop

I’ve already ventured into this with a sweet striped number (ahem, the first one) I wore to a car show this last weekend. Not only did  feel cool, I felt pretty and put together. I even had a guy hit on me while I was pulling my toddler son around in a wagon. So already sundresses are a win for me this summer.

What is your favorite sundress you’ve ever owned?

  1. I’m loving the color block from Modcloth! Super cute!

  2. Funny you should mention sundresses….seems that I am picking up alot of them this season too! After losing 30lbs…I am finding the fun in shopping again and dresses seem to flatter my super thin legs better then most shorts :)

  3. I love. love. love. sundresses. I need to suck it up, tan my stems and go grab a few.

    • I’m hoping the tan stems will come with the wearing. Or lotion.

  4. TopShop is my new favorite store! I’ve bought the cutest sundresses there!

  5. I live in sundresses. I mean literally every, single day. It’s the only comfortable thing in heat and humidity all year long. Good thing I love them too! TopShop does have some cute ones Stef! Agree!

  6. OH god I LOVE sundresses. They are SO cute and stylish (love the striped one) and make you feel really hot when it’s nasty outside. I hate shorts, so rarely wear them… would much rather rock a short and sassy skirt or dress. I LOVE your picks!!

  7. I love that first striped one and have seen it at Nordstrom! Adorable. I should really do sundresses this summer.
