Back to School with Matthew McConaughey

Back to School with Matthew McConaughey

Alright, alright, alriiiight!

It’s so great to be back after a summer break, and I can’t wait to share with you over the next few weeks everything that The Trend Tribe has experienced! One of my favorite moments was my afternoon spent with a great group of girlfriends including newest Trendsetter, Kadi Prescott, at Venice High School to sit down with and speak with actor, Matthew McConaughey. Nope, we weren’t there on location for his next movie, we were there thanks to some very special VIP perks from SheSpeaks. An afternoon program was set up in order to become educated on the importance of staying in school, lowering the drop out rate, and how we can play an important part in finding a solution to this crisis. The solution? Mentoring.

Then I saw this…

School gym? This has recipe for disaster written all over it.

MORE PHOTOS: 2012 Event || Matthew McConaughey :: School the Nation

The film star of productions such as Dazed and Confused, Tropic Thunder, Magic Mike and Bernie, kept his shirt on (for most of the time;) however he did break a sweat by dropping to give us 20 and showing us how leading by example encourages children to move their bodies, express gratitude, improve their behavior and positively alter your life path. While it is important to recognize children of all ages, McConaughey feels most passionately about helping teens in need:

“High school is a crossroads where we’re running out of do-overs. The best choice is always the hardest and consequences have a bigger bite. It is the last stop to learn to make new choices and maintain a healty lifestyle.”

How you can help!

McConaughey and his foundation, j.k. livin  (“founded with the goal of empowering high school students to lead active lives and healthy choices,”) have partnered with P&G and Communities in Schools on a new program to School the Nation. This gives all of us the opportunity to participate and make a difference in the lives of children and teens and aid in the prevention of dropping out of school. While walking through Target and you look in your big red basket, what do you see? Chances are you have more P&G products than you even realized staring back at you! Well friends, that is a win/win situation. For a limited time, when you purchase $25 worth of participating P&G brands,  you’ll receive a $5 rebate by mail AND P&G will donate another $5 to Communities in Schools.

For more information about the rebate, the brands and products that qualify and how to redeem, visit

Thank you Matthew McConaughey for inviting us to learn more about the importance of mentoring, how we can participate and how much just a little bit goes in making the lives of these children so much greater!

Oh, and then THIS happened…

  1. He wanted us. I could tell by the way he kept a safe distance from us but his bodyguard/gestating baby mama within throat punch range. It was obvious that the temptation to reenact Magic Mike was going to overwhelm him in our very presence. I saw the look in his eyes. It was NOT fear of being groped by drooling mommy bloggers. It was pure, unadulterated lust for our mad blogging skillz and the undeniable urge to play naughty school girls with us. The end.

  2. I can’t stand it… I HATE YOU FOR MEETING HIM BECAUSE HE IS SO HOT. Ok, enough said.

    • But it was for a great cause!

  3. Been waiting and waiting for this article!! Love it! Love him! Love the cause!! Good job, my friend!! Well done!! Okay, enough with the exclamation points!!!!

    • Tai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I threw in a couple more for you.) Thanks for stopping by. I hope to see you soon. The stars always align for you and I, so I can’t wait!

  4. I’m sorry…what was this post about?? I’m still drooling. Really though, this is SUCH a great cause, and I am so happy to see a celeb as wonderful and beautiful as Matthew take the reins on this one. Especially coming from a state where the drop out rate tops the nation, I am all for mentoring and role models. So far, he has done an excellent job himself, P&G made a great choice for him as a representative of this.

    • What a great comment! I’m just still flabbergasted that this happened not a week after you and I were sitting at a bar discussing whom we’d want to meet! OK…so who should we talk about next?

  5. So awesome that he’s participating in a great cause! I’m forever trying to be a good example to my kids and staying active… and then they see me for hours at a time at my computer. #momfail

    • Looking back, you will never say, “Hey….I wish I spent more time with my computer.” or “What a great shot! I’m going to frame that picture of me working on my laptop that we took in Hawaii. It’s a good picture of both of us.” Go be active, Toots!!!

  6. Such a great (AND NEEDED) initiative. Role models and mentors have helped me through some tough spots and the importance of both cannot be overstated, especially where teens are concerned.

    • It’s very needed. And Matthew had the kind of personality where not only did he jump right in, but the children seemed to immediately trust him. This is a special program and I’m glad P&G recognized it and has partnered with it.

  7. Lucky ladies you are for getting up close and personal with Mr. Matthew McConaughey. More importantly, definitely a great event for such a good cause! It is nice to see celebrities involved in initiatives like this one.

    • Katy…this could’ve been you!

  8. Glad to see he is doing something worthy with his time instead of the days when he would play bongos naked in the desert. I guess he grew up.

    • If that is the worst memory you can bring up about him then it doesn’t sound like he’s a bad person! I can think of quite a few bizarre things celebs have done in the past and they still haven’t given back. This only proves without a shadow of a doubt that Matthew McConuaghey is cute, adorable, kind, human and hysterical!

  9. LOVE the “money shot” HAHAHA. Glad he doing good with all that… um… goodness…

    • No words. No go by P&G stuff and support Matty.

  10. My brother was at the post office getting his passport renewed at the same time as Matthew. I immediately asked if he had his shirt on. Seriously. So hot.

    • I understand, Sharlene… I really do.

  11. What a great post, what a great cause and a great man!

    • Thank you for stopping by! I’m glad you enjoyed.

  12. OMG, I had like the worst nightmare. It had to do something with a chauffeured car and flashing the sign of the horns with Matthew McConaughey and you DIDN’T INVITE ME TO COME ALONG!

    • Next time we do Clooney. I promise.

  13. I so passed him as he was taking his shirt off and saw the girls running towards him so I didn’t go back to get a picture. I now regret it. lol.

    • It was a beautiful day!!!!

  14. What Kadi said! LOL So much fun! Great spending time with you… : )

    • Such a great time with all you nutterbutters! I’m so happy we all had the chance to spend such a great afternoon together.

  15. Sounds like you had a GREAT time! I looks like so much fun.

    • Matty Mc. was dreamy, but hanging with the gals was a BLAST! Thanks for stopping by!
