Neiman Marcus Christmas Book 2012
OH HAPPY DAY! This morning Neiman Marcus unveiled its 86th Edition Christmas Book in all their glory with their magical Fantasy Gifts and I’m overwhelmed with holiday spirit. Those who don’t know the story behind my pillow…yes, this is mine, my hubs gave it to me one Christmas when we first began dating…my beloved mother, believed Neiman Marcus was Santa Claus. Unlike most kiddies, my ‘Dear Santa’ letters went to directly to Dallas, TX the headquarters of Neiman Marcus, not the North Pole. Thanks to my mom’s favorite store, I’ve been a Neiman Marcus girl since birth.
For as long as I can remember, this magical book marked the beginning my holiday season. Immediately, upon delivery I would ever so carefully study the cover of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book in search of Leroy Neiman’s hidden signature the way other tots freak out over finding the hidden pictures in Highlights magazine. I was never an ordinary child. I have dreamt about living inside the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book for as long as I can remember.
With the fashion bible in one hand and a giant Crayola in the other, I would circle fantasy gifts and carefully cut and paste onto what would prove to be my first vision boards. I hoped with all my might that these collages would get into the hands of Santa’s executives and that the elves were feverishly hammering away on inside the Toy Factory so I’d have my goodies on Christmas morning. I’d be fibbing to say I wasn’t mesmerized by the kid sized gingerbread house, cupcake car or my very own personal submarine, but I do remember very clearly from a young age being fascinated by the merchandise. Women were photographed dressed like Alexis + Krystal Carrington and more was more.
Mom thought this was adorable and kept the tradition going every year even after I figured out the truth behind Old St. Nick. For the record, all those zeros as in $000,000 didn’t seem to faze me, it was the silhouettes, gems and sparkle that piqued my interest most. Studying the lines and trends that were threaded throughout the book as if it was one lucky woman’s story about her personal adventures. These individual tales that graced the pages became my nightly bedtime story. I made it a game to memorize the designers and become familiar with the specific patterns, fabrics or logos they were known for. I could recognize the Gucci brand before Coca Cola by the time I was in kindergarten, so when I took a sneak peek of what this year’s Christmas Book I was giddy and five years old all over again. Without missing a beat, I thought…

While unconventional, I happen to love this special tradition my mother began with me years and years ago. It was never forced. Having been the biggest Barbie lover imaginable, I found hope and relief in the beautiful designs, products and services as I thumbed through the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book. Barbie had a beautiful home, designer Oscar de la Renta couture and jetted off to faraway places. And now I knew every little girl could be Barbie thanks to Neiman Marcus.
A large piece of my heart also knows, without my Neiman Marcus Christmas Book tradition, The Trend Tribe would never have been born.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… To find out some non-fantasy items I’m dying for Santa to bring me from Neiman Marcus, check out yesterday’s Fashion Trends :: What to Wear? piece on The Trend Tribe!
A very special thank you to my friends over at Neiman Marcus Fashion Island for getting me a copy of this magical book so quickly!

This is the book dreams are made of… every year around this time! Cute pillow, yours Nicole? Must be!
Thank you! Yes, it was one of the first presents my husband (then suitor,) left me under the tree. It is one of my prized possessions. He knows me oh, so well!
You have me so excited for the holidays! Gift giving is my favorite part and the gift guides are what I wait all year for. Those fantasy items are so well curated. I would not hate having that Woddy Tailgate. I would pull it up to random people’s parties. Just because I could.
People’s parties? Heck, I would just drive around and go house to house for Happy Hour!
I love that book! I used to get it but it looks like my new address hasn’t quite made it correctly in their database. Yes, it’s silly expensive, but half the fun is going through these amazing dream situations.
Trina, you would be wildly surprised at how many things are quite affordable inside Neiman Marcus! Especially now with the Target partnership coming up…I bet there will be something for everyone!
Nothing like dreaming. I felt the same way about the Sears Wish Book, especially the toy section and the ladies’ formal wear section.
The toy section ROCKED! Thank you for making me remember all about that catalog!
Are we talking about Xmas already?! I am still working on Halloween!
‘Tis the season…
I didn’t know what Neiman Marcus was till I was a teen…. I don’t think I was into anything of the sort as a child…maybe just cooking.
Better late than never is what I say!
I CANNOT wait to get mine!! CANNOT WAIT!!! So excited! That alone is like Christmas. Great story Nic!
So what was your favorite treat in the book this year?
I love this post. I was the same way, but with Bazaar magazine. I love looking at all the pictures, memorizing photographers names, designer logos, etc. It’s a wonderful fantasy to hav.e
I love Harper’s Bazaar. Anything that I can jump into and get lost in is fine by me!
AWWWW Neimans! Holly Golightly had Tiffany’s- and that is what Neiman Marcus is for me. I could walk around with a coffee all day there and be happy.
You and I need to go on a date. Pronto!
I love Christmas, it’s such a magical time and Neiman Marcus is magical too!
Neiman Marcus is pure magic. It’s my Wonkaland.
