Blogging 101 : Illustration
I have always thought custom illustrations were a beautiful addition to blog posts and did a wonderful job at highlighting the content. Hoping to add that je ne sais quoi, I recently found myself in need of hiring an illustrator and I commissioned Steph Calvert, owner of Hearts and Laserbeams, to create a few designs for an upcoming campaign I was working on.
As the campaign’s terms and conditions evolved, I was going to need Steph to illustrate four characters based off of celebrity’s identities. They had to be real enough for our audience to recognize, but cartoony enough to fit the overall theme of the piece. With a quick turnaround (and I mean super quick turnaround…) Steph was able to provide me with first drafts. Many of which were perfect from the start and did not need any further tweaking. Considering all of our correspondence was done via email, she understood my needs, worked independently, tackled the tasks at hand, and was able to run with the directions and deliver the goods in a very timely manner.
The finished results were exactly what I had hoped for. Crisp, clean, yet fun character renditions of personalities we all know and love. Steph has built a vast portfolio over at Hearts and Laserbeams throughout her time as an illustrator so there was never any doubt in asking her to jump in on this project that was very special to me.
